🔎 Endometriosis, Heart Disease & Advancing Women’s Health: What You Need to Know

From endometriosis to heart disease, women’s health has long been overlooked—but solutions exist. This week, we explore key insights and what needs to change.

Hello readers!

This week, we’re diving into some of the biggest issues in women’s health—ones that too often get overlooked, dismissed, or simply underfunded….but not doom and gloom style. Let’s get solution oriented! 💪

🟡 Endometriosis is an iceberg—what’s below the surface matters. March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, and millions of women are still struggling with delayed diagnoses, ineffective treatments, and persistent pain. We’re breaking down what you really need to know—and the questions you should be asking your doctor.

💡 Why is women’s health stuck? We’ve talked about it for decades, but talk isn’t enough. Women’s health isn’t just a social issue—it’s an economic failure, and the numbers prove it. Let’s discuss what needs to change and how we actually make progress.

❤️ Women and heart disease—what everyone should know. It’s American Heart Month, and here’s the reality: heart disease is the #1 killer of women, but too many of us don’t know the warning signs. Symptoms in women can look very different from men, and they’re often dismissed. We’re talking about what you need to know to advocate for yourself and your loved ones. Plus, don’t miss an upcoming conversation with Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum on menopause and cardiovascular health!

And of course, we’ve got some must-read recommendations, a lesson from a Nobel laureate, and—yes—Idina Menzel + Redwoods (just trust me on this one).

Read on, stay informed, and let’s keep pushing for better.

Why Women’s Health is Stuck—And How We Fix It

For decades, we’ve talked about how women’s health is underfunded, under-researched, and deprioritized—but talking isn’t enough. If it were, we wouldn’t still be here.

Women’s health isn’t just a social issue—it’s an economic failure that affects innovation, investment, and patient outcomes. Less than 5% of healthcare R&D funding goes to conditions that disproportionately affect women, and outdated reimbursement models still favor men’s procedures.

This isn’t just about awareness—it’s about fixing the system.

💡 How do we actually change it? Read the latest article on why we keep running in circles—and what needs to happen next.

Next week, we’ll look at a movement that actually changed the system—breast cancer activism—and how we can apply those lessons across women’s health. Stay tuned!

Women and Heart Disease: What Everyone Should Know

It’s American Heart Month, so let’s talk women’s heart health. According to Go Red for Women, cardiovascular disease is the 😔 No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. It’s a third of our mothers, sisters, friends, neighbors, coworkers and more. It’s a third of the women we can’t bear to live without.

Did you know there can be different heart attack symptoms in women than in men? And did you know women’s symptoms are often dismissed! We need to pay closer attention to heart disease in women. Learn how to advocate for yourself and your loved ones.

Be sure to sign up for A Heart-to-Heart with Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum: Menopause + Cardiovascular Health. It will be held on February 18.

🙌🏼 Recommendations and Resources

🔷 Interesting Read: Medical gaslighting became a popular hashtag a few years ago, and for good reason. Check out All in Her Head: The Truth and Lies Early Medicine Taught Us About Women's Bodies and Why It Matters Today by Elizabeth Comen. It’s important to leverage resources to help us navigate the complex healthcare system - and one that is lagging in women’s health research.

🔷 Healthcare Scams: It’s wonderful to have social media as an outlet for creators who may otherwise never have an opportunity to share their gifts. However, when it comes to our health, some take it too far.

🔷 A Lesson from a Nobel Laureate: We need to keep working together and collaborating. Progress happens on the collective collaborations of many. Just imagine what can happen. I love this clip.

🔷 Redwoods and Idina Menzel: Say no more. Just watch.
