What Women Often Aren't Prepared for But Should Be

Good afternoon!

This week is an important topic - hysterectomies. Given the feedback and comments, it is clear these guests share exactly what women need to hear!

I just landed in San Francisco and will be attending the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) annual conference. Follow Fempower Health on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube as I share updates.

Yesterday was also a BIG day. I turned 50 and had a wonderful celebration with local friends and of course, my son. For a good laugh, enjoy my rendition of “that” SNL skit! 🤣

🎧 This Week’s Health Beat: Hysterectomy

Approximately 600,000 hysterectomy procedures are performed annually in the United States (U.S.), making it the most common non-obstetric surgical procedure among women. With so many procedures and many stories of women’s struggles, I sought out some expert opinions to help those who have, will, or considering having a hysterectomy.

Listen as Dr. Zoe Rodriguez of Mount Sinai shares her medical and patient-advocating expertise about life before and after hysterectomy. She offers an interesting perspective on cultural influences as well. Check out this preview.

We know the pelvic floor plays an important role in our overall health. Sadly, however, we often learn this after the fact. I don’t know about you, but I never thought hysterectomies would also require the proactive and aftercare of a pelvic floor PT. Dr. Jocelyn Wallace, Doctor of Physical Therapy and pelvic floor specialist, shares her insights.  Check out this preview.

🧑🏽‍⚕️How to Talk to Your Doctor

Time and time again, doctors tell me, “Women know their bodies, we know the science.” However, we women are not taught all that we need to know and instead, I hear women say, “If only I had known.” Add to that, appointments are so short. Thus, a supplement to the podcast series on hysterectomies, I’ve created these guides for you. I hope they prove helpful.
