Honoring Jessica Fettway, Halle Berry's Misdiagnosis, and Discovering Period Swimsuits

Sponsored by

Greetings from Ithaca. This week is Spring Break with an active 8 year old boy. We are hiking and eating ice cream everyday…sometimes twice! 😜

Jessica Fettway, mother and advocate, passes away from cervical cancer. She advocated for herself and asked for me. Doctors insisted it was uterine fibroids and it clearly was not. We must honor her. Our hearts go out to her family.

Birth control is making the news. Most recently, the Washington Post wrote Women are getting off birth control amid misinformation explosion and previous guest, Sarah E. Hill, wrote a response The Real Story Behind Women Getting Off Hormonal Birth Control And Misinformation. These discussions magnify the complexities of the healthcare system and even more so the challenges in women’s health.

🎧 This Week’s Health Beat

This week, I'm embarking on a bold new venture – illuminating the vital subject of women’s health. As we navigate the inception of this journey, I aim to lay a comprehensive foundation, setting the stage to delve into the nuances and critical areas within women’s health.

I am particularly invigorated by the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in bridging the profound gaps in women’s healthcare. Take, for instance, the groundbreaking advancements in early breast cancer detection through AI technology!

I welcome your input on specific topics within women’s health that you’d like to see explored. My ambition is to harness my expertise in healthcare, enriched by insights from distinguished experts, to distill and share pivotal trends, pressing concerns, and actionable guidance.

🩸 18+: A Guide to Understanding Your Reproductive Health

Does the PCOS Diets Work? The NYTimes published an article speaking about PCOS diets. In case you weren’t aware, last year, criteria for diagnosis has been updated, which is critical, because 1 in 10 women have PCOS and many go undiagnosed for years. Additionally, “what works” for each woman varies. And while there is no cure, symptoms can be managed.

🔥 Menopause is Hot 😉

Halle Berry Recalls Her Doctor Saying She Had the 'Worst Case of Herpes' He'd Ever Seen — but It Was Perimenopause. In fact, it was Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM). Previous guest Dr. Maria Uloko educates us on GSM and the role of vaginal estrogen. Clearly, we can’t talk about this enough so apologies if this is the 100th time you’ve heard this. 😜 Sometimes, we need a celebrity’s story to make headlines.

I’d love to hear from you. Do you have a great story to tell about a doctor helping you through perimenopause? Or perhaps you have had a similar experience to Halle Berry. Reply to this email or share in the comments below. Let’s get a comment chain going.

👁‍🗨 Quote of the Week

OCD is considered one of the top ten most debilitating disorders. So it's no joke, right? If you like to color-code things or you like things neat in your house, that's not OCD… Making comments like that, even though they're not meant to be cruel, are problematic.
